While the sun is out, our youth have used their summer as a chance to give back. Children and teenagers participated in educational trips and camps where they volunteered to help the community.

A SUMMER OF GIVING

Years 5-6 girls began GIFT camp by creating packs and treats to show gratitude to Hatzola emergency workers.  They also designed animal print caps for Camp Simcha and participated in a care package challenge, shopping for hospital patients and new mothers with a £5 budget. Wednesday featured flower-themed cookie decoration and performance preparation for Sage Care Home which they visited the next day. GIFT also collaborated with Langdon where they danced and brought joy to residents.

Years 3-4 packed Rosh Hashana bags for Norwood families and support parcels for GIFT recipients. On Wednesday, they delivered parcels, painted rocks for Hendon Park, and created inspirational messages. Thursday involved cookie baking for firemen, visiting the fire brigade, and setting up a kindness stall for Hendon Park where they distributed free items.

“Thank you so much for allowing Myra to take part in the GIFT camp! Never ever before had I heard her speaking so highly of something and not to mention all the giving opportunities, she's experienced. She's become a better person thanks to the GIFT camp. As a parent that’s the best gift to receive!” exclaimed Sarah Howard, parent of GIFT camp participant.

Throughout the week, kindness was emphasised, leading to a well-earned party for all the girls.

The Israel camp was equally a success, lasting for a span of two weeks, during which volunteering activities took place. The camp was attended by 46 young girls between the ages of 12 and 15.

Last week, GIFT organised boys’ and girls’ volunteering trips for Year 10 students to Brighton. Activities included litter picking, aiding at a halfway home, distributing food packages to the homeless and engaging with elderly members of the community. Students were hosted by BNJC, where Rabbi Matt Marks and Shirelle emphasised our giving responsibility.

Ellie, 15, shared, "I learned that giving goes beyond actions—it's about dedicating time and attention to those in need."

Rikki, 15, reflected, "Meeting people in unique situations expanded my empathy and understanding of my community. Thanks to GIFT, this unforgettable experience will stay with me forever."
